Bees have their own “facial recognition software,” and can recognize human faces.

Honeybee Fact 13

The male bees in a hive come from unfertilized eggs and make up only about 15 percent of the colony. Their existence shows that a hive has enough food. All they do is mate and eat. Unlike the female bees, they don’t have any other jobs—and they don’t even have a stinger.

Bees that maintain the hive work diligently to keep it clean. The only bee that defecates inside the hive is the queen, and there are bees that clean up after her whenthat happens. Bees Are Neat Freaks.

Honeybee Fact 15

The queen bee can live up to 5 years and it’s role is to fill the hive with eggs. She is the busiest in the summer months, when the hive needs to be at its maximum strength, she lays up to 2500 eggs per day. The queen bee has control over whether she lays male or female eggs.
