The bees who look after the hive work hard to keep it clean. The queen bee is the only one that defecates within the hive, and there are bees who clean up after her. Bees are a bunch of neat freaks.

The queen bee may live up to 5 years and is responsible for laying eggs in the hive. She lays up to 2500 eggs each day during the summer months, when the hive needs to be at its full power. The queen bee chooses whether or not to deposit male of female eggs.
